Name: Martah
Age: 22
Gender: Female
Alignment: Good
Krimzon Guard Rank: *none*
Personality: Martah is an outgoing gal who enjoys being the center of attention, and has loved playing to a crowd since before she even could walk. She is the youngest of five siblings and the only girl, and as she was pretty much raised by her oldest brother she is quite a tomboy (she probably hasn’t seen a dress since she was a baby). She is for the most part laid back and isn’t bothered by overcomplicated issues or trivial details—she’s a bigger picture sort of person. That being said she is optimistic toward life as a whole, despite being unable to continue racing. She has very distinct thoughts on what or who is good or bad. Martah also possesses a short temper, and she is known for shouting (sometimes incoherently) and sulking when she feels she has been wronged. She tends to hold grudges for a long time, and doesn’t really learn from her mistakes. She is also quite impulsive in tense situations- not one to focus on details, which tends to land her in hot water. Much of the time though she is a casual person and a fast talker- though unfortunately with not considering what she says, she sometimes tends to come off as mouthy or rude. In this sense and others Martah can be pretty immature- she teases, flirts, and annoys people as well as a girl half her age.
Physical Appearance: Martah is of average height with an athletic build, short chestnut brown hair worn in a spiky style and violet eyes. She almost always wears a pair of silver goggles (which conveniently keeps her hair out of her face). Her everyday outfit appears as a relatively average racer’s uniform. She wears a short sleeved navy blue top with red trim and a black back brace underneath. Her pants are black and slightly baggy with a stripe in electric blue running down one leg, and the word ‘girl’ in Precursor down the other leg. She wears typical brown boots with metallic decoration.
Strengths: Speed. Martah has been driving since probably way before she legally could have. She can handle almost any vehicle from small to large, average or customized. She has quick reflexes and can travel through and navigate Haven City with the best of them, even at fast speeds. She is also fairly decent with a weapon, mostly at close range. She also has decent mechanical skills: She can repair vehicles, but she doesn’t have the skills to build them like her brothers.
Weaknesses: Due to a bad racing injury (explained in history), Martah has persistent back problems and is only really agile while on a zoomer. Physically she can’t move fast at all. Her rash attitude also tends to get her in trouble pretty quickly, particularly when she doesn’t pause to consider situations. Her physical strength is no more than average for a woman of her size.
Brief History: Martah was born in an upper class section of Haven City, the youngest child and only daughter of her family. Her mother and father died in an accident when she was eight, and from then on she was raised by her older brothers- Larse, Andree, Svehn, and Oskar. Larse and Oskar ran a garage near the stadium while Andree and Svehn competed in races. Martah grew up relatively happy, despite having lost her parents while young. She loved the stadium atmosphere and even as a young girl went to the stadium daily to watch races. Her brothers built child-safe zoomers for her to ride in the back areas of the garages (tricycle zoomer anyone?).
When she was fourteen Martah became an official member of her brothers’ racing team. She really only shined up zoomers and speeders, but she was now able to watch races from the sidelines instead of in the stands. Soon afterwards Svehn was killed during the Class Two championship when another speeder sent his vehicle into a drop-off. Her surving brothers were quick to place the blame on a quickly up and coming racer and Krimzon Guard- Erol. Martah was devastated and her eldest brother Larse quickly banned her from setting foot in the stadium. After some months she returned to sitting in the crowds as Andree competed in Class Three racing, and there began to feel inspired to race herself. Thinking she was carrying on her brother’s memory, Martah disguised herself, ‘stole’ a speeder from the garage, and entered her first amateur race before she turned sixteen.
Unfortunately for Martah, her plan did not go well. The speeder she had borrowed was incomplete and quickly malfunctioned, sending her flying into the sidelines and breaking her leg. Though her injury was not terribly serious, she also was discovered by her brothers, despite trying to hide her appearance. Larse again banned her from the stadium, but this time told her she could try again when she was eighteen, as she had displayed some skill, being able to ride an incomplete vehicle. Naturally as soon as she turned eighteen she reentered amateur races and quickly moved into Class Three, then Class Two- she beat her own brother for the Class Three championship in less than a year. Her overall goal was to race against Erol, who by now was the Class One champion, and beat him.
After nearly a year of competing in the Class Two races, Martah managed to qualify for the championship race. Urged not to compete by her brothers who sited this was more dangerous than the lower class racing, she entered. In an accident rather similar to her first racing attempt, her speeder was hit during the race and caught on the edge of the track, hurling her off the vehicle and into a support beam. She wound up hospitalized for months with a broken back, and for a while it was uncertain that she would ever even walk again. After therapy however, she did manage to walk with relative ease, though having to wear a brace for spinal support.
Understanding that she would never be able to race again, Martah grew depressed. A short time after that she offered her services to the Underground. She might not be able to race, but she was still an excellent driver and navigator, and to Martah, the streets of Haven City were safer than racing in the stadium. She worked as a “pick up” operative and transporter during the battle for the city.
With the Underground no longer what it was now, Martah has been trying to find a way to adjust to a more boring life. Secretly she would like to race again, but for now she works as a part time mechanic and detailer for her brothers’ garage, and offers lessons to young people who hope to get into racing.
Extras: Nothing I can think of.

Sample Post: Just another day of plain old boredom. It was silly, Martah thought, that even though the Underground had succeeded, she was a little upset by it. There she had been useful, and part of a greater cause. And now she felt unneeded and despite her close family, a bit lonely. The sky was cloudy overhead as she sat on a bench outside the stadium gate, watching two young boys excitedly admire posters of the city’s new racing champions, the cute blond haired boy and his pet. She smiled sadly, her ego noting that it should be her face on those posters. But that was something that wasn’t going to happen now. A few more minutes went by and the youngsters ran off on imaginary speeders.
Propping her hand against the wall behind her, Martah stood up slowly, looking a little awkward to anyone who didn’t realize she was wearing a brace. She seemed to hurt a little more now, lacking the adrenaline she used to run on while working for the Underground. That had been constantly exciting and fun, much more so than a mechanic and detailer. She didn’t like the idea of adjusting back to a boring lifestyle. When Larse had discovered what she had been doing all those months, he was furious and called her reckless. She wasn’t, she insisted. She knew perfectly well what she was doing. She had never been injured in that line of work, so she pointed out that it was safer than racing.
The smell of the line of garages made Martah wrinkle her nose as she approached them. She knew not far off Larse and Oskar were busy working. Just outside the open door, she spotted Larse’s new prototype speeder, a smaller model with a powerful engine that allowed it to go much faster than what people were used to. Now that was something she wanted to try. She peeked inside the garage, looking for a sign of either of the older men, and not seeing them, she moved to closer examine the vehicle.
What harm could it do, after all? She was much older than she was the last time she had ‘borrowed’ a speeder, and surely a short ride wouldn’t do much damage to the vehicle, or her back. With that logic, she climbed on without any more hesitation. But unfortunately she had no more than revved the engine once, than a tall man appeared in front of her, his eyes narrowed and trained on her face. “And just where do you think you’re going with that?”
((Uh, the beginning of this turned out a bit more angsty than I’ve ever intended Martah to be…I guess that’s what I get for reading angsty fanfiction before typing. So really she’s not that angsty, just a little emo and bored.))
